The Class
Women can heal through dance. Sensual dance especially, is powerful medicine.
Are you ready to take your body on a new journey?
My name is Julie.
For the past decade, I’ve been on the path of reawakening, embodying, and integrating my sensuality through dance.
Over the years, I have developed a unique approach to sensual dance, which combines improvisation, instinctive movement, and pole technique—pole-work, but not “pole dance.” Intrigued?
Of course you are—because every woman embodies the sensual. It’s our birth-right as women to access and express the joy, freedom, and physicality of sensual movement.
And yet, this type of movement has been over-sexualized and relegated to the shadows by mainstream ideologies.
However, once awakened and reclaimed within the security of a container of witnessing, we have an opportunity to integrate and embody our sensuality with grace and power. I have watched sensual dance transform women, allowing them to access and re-align parts of themselves in ways they never thought possible.
Feminine sensual dance is a gateway to accessing some of women’s most potent power and magic.
Join me in this improvisational, experimental, experiential sensual dance series for women—a place to co-create, explore, and move freely. Come and allow yourself to remember who you are, through dance.
My teaching style is loose, open, unrehearsed, and informed by my decade of experience in dance, psychotherapy, and Buddhist meditation.
The class will start with a focus on waking up and igniting feminine sensual dance in the body through guided moving meditations, instruction-based teaching of different sensual moves and movement, and learning a simple dance sequence.
As the participants develop familiarity with this movement-based language, the class will evolve into improvisational sensual dance to process and integrate various experiences and emotions.
Throughout, we may explore feminine movement and expression in relation to music type/genre, female archetypes, personality characteristics, and emotions/feelings. As the series progresses, students will be encouraged to bring in their own music and dance through events and experiences as they arise while being held and witnessed by me, and the other women in the cohort.
The class is for all skill levels—no experience necessary. Bring an open-mind—expect to be challenged, but also supported. We will be moving to a variety of musical styles (including some music that might include confronting lyrics).
Being open to sharing your feelings as they come up through verbal processing and through movement is essential, along with a willingness to put your hands on your own body, according to your comfort level.
You will also be invited to try on clothing you might not usually wear, although you will always be in control of the margins of your own boundaries and choices.
Classes involve an 8-week commitment— part of the magic that happens in these classes is the relationships that develop between women as we witness one another move through transformations big and small.
